Week Three: Online Meetings

This week I watched a webinar on Bite Sized Marketing: Real Solutions for Overworked Librarians. It was pretty good.

Online meetings aren't new for me. Many have gone really smoothly and were really good. Much better than the expense of driving somewhere else and trying to coordinate everyone meeting in person.) I've also experienced a lot with technical difficulties or that just didn't seem worth the time and effort. (The same could be said for in person meetings too.) I appreciated the advice in the lesson that if you are prepared for there to be technical difficulties, it makes a little more palatable.

Ironically, the archived webcast was full of technical issues too-- the presenter said her slides were pared down from 70 to 12. The speaker was good enough, I ended up going to her blog to check out the extra stuff that didn't get shown. Discovering her blog was a bonus http://themwordblog.blogspot.com/, it looks like an interesting resource. Love the phonebooth library--check it out!

I liked the Bright Talk platform it was on. Seemed pretty user friendly. In general, like platforms with voting options and a side chat box. I think the tools and the 'naturalness' of participating will only get better. Overall, I think webinars and online meetings are just a necessity these days.
